Summary	LPAR5 encodes a member of the rhodopsin class of G protein-coupled transmembrane receptors. This protein transmits extracellular signals from lysophosphatidic acid to cells through heterotrimeric G proteins and mediates numerous cellular processes. Many G protein receptors serve as targets for pharmaceutical drugs. Transcript variants of this gene have been described. Lee et al. (2001) identified GPR92, which they designated GPR93, in a genomic database using the sequences of the cysteinyl leukotriene-2 receptor as query. GPR92 encodes a deduced 372-amino acid protein that shares 36 to 40% sequence identity in the transmembrane regions with the G protein-coupled purinergic receptor P2Y5 (P2RY5), GPR23, and GPR17.
