A Novel Marker in Cardiovascular Disease-Copeptin

Copeptin (CPP), is a part of C-terminus in arginine vasopressin (AVP) (Figure 1), a new biological marker in the recent research. Many studies show that it plays an important role in early diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease, pulmonary infection, etc. The latest research shows that copeptin combined TnI shows great value in early diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome.

Why is peptide is so special? How about its structure and function?

Copeptin is a kind of leucine-rich glycopeptide, AVP-derived, comprised of 39 amino acids. Until now, its biological function is not very clear, some studies suggest that it plays an important role in the processing of AVP precursor processing, the maturation, transport and stability of AVP. AVP plays crucial roles in the regulation of osmotic pressure, blood volume, hemostasis, endocrine and central nervous system , its expression is mainly controlled by the plasma osmolality and blood volume. In the blood from patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), COPD and lung cancer, the level of AVP is significantly up-regulated, and therefore, AVP was considered to be an important predictor of these diseases.

However, researchers later found that since 90% of circulating AVP bound with platelets, and AVP shows a short half-life, it is difficult to measure its level quantitatively. As AVP and copeptin have the same origin, CPP can be used as a substitute for AVP, so researchers are very interested in detection of copeptin.

In order to meet research needs about CPP, Cloud-Clone develoed ELISA kit for Copeptin. This kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for in vitro quantitative measurement of copeptin in human serum,plasma and other biological fluids. Additionally, Cloud-Clone also developed ELISA kit against mice and rats CPP, respectively.

As those ELISA kits for Copeptin have a high sensitivity, they are welcomed by many researchers. There are many published articles using kits (see Table 1).
