Replication Factor C1 (RFC1)

Replication factor C subunit 1 is the large subunit of replication factor C, which is a five subunit DNA polymerase accessory protein. The protein acts as an activator of DNA polymerases, binds to the 3' end of primers, and promotes coordinated synthesis of both strands. It also may have a role in telomere stability.

Replication factor C is a multisubunit, DNA polymerase accessory protein required for the coordinated synthesis of both DNA strands during simian virus 40 DNA replication in vitro. It is a DNA-dependent ATPase that binds in a structure-specific manner to the 3-prime end of a primer hybridized to a template DNA, an activity thought intrinsic to the 140-kD component of this multisubunit complex.
