By EST database searching, sequencing, and 5-prime RACE analysis, Jadayel et al. (1998) identified 2 genes, BCL7B and BCL7C, encoding proteins that share 90% identity with the N-terminal 51 amino acids of BCL7A , which was cloned from a complex chromosomal translocation in Burkitt lymphoma cell lines. They suggested that the 3 genes are members of an evolutionarily conserved gene family. B-cell CLL/lymphoma refers to a family of genes associated with certain types of lymphoma and leukemia.
The BCL7C gene encodes a deduced 217-amino acid protein with a basic N terminus and an acidic C terminus. By fluorescence in situ hybridization, Jadayel et al. (1998) mapped the BCL7C gene to chromosome 16p11
