Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2 Subunit 3 (EIF2S3)
[Edit]EIF2; EIF2G; EIF2gamma; eIF-2gX; Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit gamma X
Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (EIF-2) functions in the early steps of protein synthesis by forming a ternary complex with GTP and initiator tRNA and binding to a 40S ribosomal subunit. EIF-2 is composed of three subunits, alpha, beta, and gamma (this article), with the protein encoded by this gene representing the gamma subunit. The EIF2G cDNA encodes a 472-amino acid protein with a molecular mass of 51.8 kD and contains 3 consensus GTP-binding elements. Human EIF2G is highly related to the yeast homolog, GCD11, exhibiting 71% sequence identity and an additional 13% similarity. The largest number of grains were located on the region Xp22.2-p22.1. A secondary hybridization repeat was detected on 12p13.2-p12.3. No significant accumulation of grains was detected on the human Y chromosome.
