Brain Specific Angiogenesis Inhibitor 2 (BAI2)

Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 2 is a protein encoded by the BAI2 gene.BAI1, a p53-target gene, encodes brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor, a seven-span transmembrane protein and is thought to be a member of the secretin receptor family.

Brain-specific angiogenesis proteins BAI2 and BAI3 are similar to BAI1 in structure, have similar tissue specificities and may also play a role in angiogenesis.Strongly expressed in brain. Also detected in heart, thymus, skeletal muscle, and different cell lines. members of this novel gene family may play important roles in suppression of glioblastoma. BAI1, BAI2 and BAI3 were mapped to 8q24, 1p35 and 6q12, respectively.
