Kinesin Family, Member 4A (KIF4A)
[Edit]KIF4-G1; KIF4; Chromokinesin-A; Chromosome-associated kinesin KIF4A
KIF4A is an ATP dependent microtubule-based motor protein that is involved in the intracellular transport of membranous organelles. This protein also associates with condensed chromosome arms and may be involved in maintaining chromosome integrity during mitosis. This protein may also be involved in the organization of the central spindle prior to cytokinesis. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome X. The deduced 1,232-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 140 kD. KIF4A shares 85% amino acid identity with mouse Kif4. RNA dot blot analysis detected abundant expression in fetal liver, thymus, and spleen. In adult tissues, expression was abundant in thymus and bone marrow and intermediate in heart, testis, kidney, colon, and lung.
