By in situ hybridization, Lania et al. (1990) localized ZNF7 to 8q24 and ZNF8 to 20q13. Bray et al. (1991) likewise mapped ZNF7 to 8qter by chromosomal in situ suppression hybridization with fluorescent probe detection. Bray et al. (1991) determined that the genomic locus designated ZNF7 corresponds to KOX4 in the set of 30 zinc finger protein-encoding cDNAs (KOX1-KOX30) previously isolated from a T-cell library (Thiesen, 1990). They concluded that the human genome contains many, probably several hundred, zinc finger genes with consensus his/cys (H/C) link regions. Huebner et al. (1993) confirmed the assignment of ZNF7 to 8q24 by analysis of rodent/human somatic cell hybrids and by in situ hybridization. They showed that ZNF7 is telomeric to the MYC locus.
