Septin 4 (SEPT4)
Septin-4 is a member of the septin gene family of nucleotide binding proteins, originally described in yeast as cell division cycle regulatory proteins. Septins are highly conserved in yeast, Drosophila, and mouse and appear to regulate cytoskeletal organization. The protein encoded by this gene is thought to be part of a complex involved in cytokinesis. Alternatively spliced variants which encode different protein isoforms have been described; however, not all variants have been fully characterized.PNUTL2 contains 478 amino acids and a GTP-binding domain. Sequence comparisons revealed that PNUTL2 shares 88% identity with mouse h5 and 50 to 60% identity with members of the septin family, which are GTP-binding proteins involved in cytokinesis. Northern blot analysis indicated that the 1.7-kb PNUTL2 mRNA is expressed ubiquitously.
