protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs, or GPRs) contain 7 transmembrane domains and transduce extracellular signals through heterotrimeric G proteins.
Lee et al. (2001) identified GPR82 in a genomic database using the sequences of GPR34 as query. PCR primers were designed to amplify and clone GPR82 from a genomic library. Full-length GPR82 encodes a deduced 336-amino acid protein that shares approximately 30% sequence identity in the transmembrane regions with GPR34, GPR17, and the somatostatin receptor SSTR2.
Najm et al. (2008) identified the GPR82 gene near a chromosomal breakpoint at Xp11.4.
