Suppressors Of Cytokine Signaling 5 (SOCS5)
[Edit]CIS6; CISH6; Cish5; SOCS-5; Cytokine-inducible SH2 protein 6; Cytokine-inducible SH2-containing protein 5
SOCS5 contains a SH2 domain and a SOCS BOX domain. The protein thus belongs to the suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) family, also known as STAT-induced STAT inhibitor (SSI) protein family. SOCS family members are known to be cytokine-inducible negative regulators of cytokine signaling. The specific function of this protein has not yet been determined. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding an identical protein have been reported. The human protein is 95% similar to the mouse protein. It contains an N-terminal region of 378 amino acids, followed by the SH2 domain, which is immediately adjacent to the C-terminal SOCS box. Northern blot analysis revealed wide expression of a 4.2-kb transcript in tissues and in all myeloma cell lines tested.
