Citrate Lyase Beta Like Protein (CLYbL)

By searching an EST database with mouse Clybl, Morikawa et al. (2001) identified human CLYBL. The deduced 340-amino acid protein shares 85.9% identity with mouse Clybl and 28.1% identity with bacterial citrate lyase-beta. Dot blot analysis of murine tissues showed high expression in heart, liver, and kidney. By RT-PCR and Northern blot analysis, Morikawa et al. (2001) showed upregulation of Clybl in murine metastatic tumor cells.By radiation hybrid and genomic sequence analyses, Morikawa et al. (2001) mapped the CLYBL gene to chromosome 13.
This organism lacks the other subunits that are necessary for ATP-independent citrate lyase activity. Even though this protein has clear similarity to citrate lyase beta subunit, it is expected to have a somewhat different enzyme activity.
