Cell Growth Regulator With Ring Finger Domain 1 (CGRRF1)

Using differential RT-PCR analysis of rat embryo fibroblast cells containing a temperature-sensitive p53 allele, Madden et al. (1996) isolated several transcripts upregulated specifically in cells harboring functional p53 protein, including 2 novel transcripts that the authors termed cell growth regulatory genes 11 (CGR11) and 19 (CGR19). The full-length CGR19 cDNA obtained from a human fetal brain cDNA library encodes a 332-amino acid protein with a putative zinc-binding C3HC4 RING finger domain at the C terminus. The human and rat CGR19 proteins share 85% overall sequence identity. Northern blot analysis of rat tissues demonstrated ubiquitous expression of CGR19, with highest levels in testis. Transfection assay experiments demonstrated that CGR19 is able to inhibit growth in several cell lines.
