Microsomal arylacetamide deacetylase competes against the activity of cytosolic arylamine N-acetyltransferase , which catalyzes one of the initial biotransformation pathways for arylamine and heterocyclic amine carcinogens in many species and tissues.
From a human liver lambda-gt11 library, Probst et al. (1994) isolated a full-length cDNA for DAC. They found an open reading frame of 400 amino acids with a deduced molecular mass of 45.7 kD containing 2 putative glycosylation sites.
AADAC gene is expressed in liver, adrenal cortex, adrenal medulla, and pancreas.the AADAC gene is located on chromosome 3 between 164 and 178 cM on the genetic map and on 3q21.3-q25.2 on the cytogenetic map.
