Signaling Lymphocytic Activation Molecule Family, Member 9 (SLAMF9)
SLAMF9 encodes a member of the signaling lymphocytic activation molecule family. The encoded protein is a cell surface molecule that consists of two extracellular immunoglobulin domains, a transmembrane domain and a short cytoplasmic tail that lacks the signal transduction motifs found in other family members. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. The predicted 289-amino acid protein shares 58% amino acid identity with the mouse protein.
SLAMF9 contains a 19-residue signal peptide, an extracellular region with only 2 N-linked glycosylation sites, a 20-residue transmembrane region, and a highly positively charged 30-residue cytoplasmic tail. The short cytoplasmic tail suggests that SLAMF9 may be an adhesion molecule.
