Zinc Finger Protein 193 (ZNF193)
A zinc finger protein is a DNA-binding protein domain consisting of zinc fingers ranging from two in the Drosophila regulator ADR1, the more common three in mammalian Sp1 up to nine in TFIIIA.
By direct cDNA hybridization to YACs from region 6p21.3, Lee et al. (1997) isolated ZNF193 from a cluster of zinc finger protein genes. All were members of the Kruppel family of transcriptional activators, containing a conserved C2H2 domain. Lee et al. (1997) cloned ZNF193 from an intestinal cDNA library. Northern blot analysis revealed that a 1.6-kb mRNA is expressed strongly in testis. Three larger mRNAs were detected at lower levels in other tissues. ZNF193 belongs to a subfamily of Kruppel proteins that have a 67-amino acid SCAN box and lack the A and B domains of the Kruppel-associated box (KRAB).
