Peptidylprolyl Isomerase Like Protein 3 is a member of the cyclophilin family. Cyclophilins catalyze the cis-trans isomerization of peptidylprolyl imide bonds in oligopeptides. They have been proposed to act either as catalysts or as molecular chaperones in protein-folding events. Transcript variants derived from alternative splicing and/or alternative polyadenylation exist; some of these variants encode different isoforms.
Human cyclophilin J, a new member of the cyclophilin family, has been expressed and crystallized.Cyclophilins, abbreviated Cyp (not to be confused with CYP, which is the approved abbreviation for cytochrome P450), are proteins that bind to ciclosporin, an immunosuppressant which is usually used to suppress rejection after internal organ transplants.
