REV1 Homolog (REV1)
[Edit]REV1L; aIBP80; Alpha Integrin Binding Protein 80; Rev1-like terminal deoxycytidyl transferase
The Rev1 contain a BRCT domain, which is important in protein-protein interactions. A suggested role for the human Rev1-like protein is as a scaffold that recruits DNA polymerases involved in translesion synthesis (TLS) of damaged DNA. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different proteins have been found.REV1L protein is a deoxycytidyl transferase that specifically inserts a dCMP residue opposite a DNA template G. In addition, the human REV1L transferase is able to insert a dCMP opposite a DNA template apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) site or a uracil residue. The authors suggested that the REV1L transferase may play a critical role during mutagenic translesion DNA synthesis, bypassing a template AP site in human cells.
