GTP Binding Protein 10 (GTPBP10)
Small G proteins, such as GTPBP10, act as molecular switches that play crucial roles in the regulation of fundamental cellular processes such as protein synthesis, nuclear transport, membrane trafficking, and signal transduction.By searching human databases for homologs of Escherichia coli Obg proteins, Hirano et al. (2006) identified GTPBP10, which they called OBGH2. The protein contains a glycine-rich region followed by a GTPase domain with 5 characteristic subdomains. At interphase, GTPBP10 localized to the dense fibrillar component of the nucleolus, and at the onset of mitosis, GTPBP10 moved to the chromosome surface and remained there until anaphase, after which it reassembled in the nucleolus at late anaphase to telophase. GTPBP10 colocalized with KI-67 antigen (MKI67) throughout mitosis.
