Fusafungine (Fus)
Fusafungine is an active agent used in antibiotics for treatment of nasal and throat infection. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties. Fusafungine is a mixture of enniatin cyclohexadepsipeptides made up of alternating D-α-hydroxyvaleric acid and L-N-methylamino acid residues.
Fusafungine, a combination of several enniatins, has been shown to display bacteriostatic activity against many micro-organisms responsible for infections of the respiratory tract, along with anti-inflammatory activity. fusafungine, whatever the aetiology of the infection, gives rapid relief of nasal and pharyngeal symptoms and provides strong evidence of its efficacy and acceptability in treating URTIs. Besides its bacteriostatic activity against most micro-organisms involved in respiratory tract infections fusafungine displays original anti-inflammatory properties.
