Troxerutin, a natural bioflavonoid isolated from Sophora japonica., has been reported to have many benefits and medicinal properties. Troxerutin reduces omocysteine, alpha-amino adipic acid, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL apo B levels in plasma of patients of acute myocardial infarction. Troxerutin decreases erythrocyte aggregation and shows positive action on stasis, capillary perfusion and trophic complications of chronic venous insufficiency. Troxerutin also attenuates cognitive impairment and oxidative stress induced by D-galactose in mouse brain through decreasing advanced glycation end products, reactive oxygen species and protein carbonyl levels and enhancing phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt activation. Troxerutin is a flavonol, a type of flavonoid. It is more accurately a hydroxyethylrutoside.Troxerutin has been shown in mice to reverse CNS insulin resistance and reduce reactive oxygen species induced by a high-cholesterol diet.
