Poliovirus Receptor Related Immunoglobulin Domain Containing Protein (PVRIG)

PVRIG was named for the homology observed between its second exon and the variable Ig domain of the polio virus receptor and polio virus receptor-like genes. PVRIG is found downstream of STAG3 in the rat, dog and mouse genomes. PVRIG contains 5 predicted exons in each species, all of which share conserved splice donor/acceptor sites.

The majority of human PVRIG transcripts would encode a 326 aa putative protein product. However, alignment of the PVRIG putative protein to other orthologs shows that the second methionine is the most likely start site. Rat and dog PVRIG, as well as chimp Pilrb have stop codons slightly upstream of the stop codons found in human and chimp PVRIG. However, they do still maintain the open reading frame. Mouse Pvrig has a stop codon at the end of exon 4 indicating that it may be a pseudogene.
