Glycoprotein B, PRV (gB)

Pseudorabies Virus (PRV) is a herpesvirus belonging to herpesvirus family, Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily, that causes pseudorabies in swine, resulting in breeding pig reproductive disorders, fattening pigs slow growth, Suckling piglets high mortality. PRV is a double-stranded DNA virus, in the viral envelope, there are a total of 11 different glycoproteins named gB, gC, gD, gE, gG, gH, gI, gK gL, gM, and gN. Glycoprotein B (gB) is conserved across the family Herpesviridae and is responsible for driving the viral envelope to fuse with the host cell membrane. For porcine pseudorabies virus, Glycoprotein gB is a major viral antigen known to play a crucial role in both PRV entry and cell-to-cell spread. To induce membrane fusion, the gH-gL heterodimer is required to cooperate with the fusogenic gB, gB can induce the production of neutralizing antibodies and is the preferred protein for PRV antibody evaluation.
