Canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) is a pathogen in dogs, it could cause acute haemorrhagic enteritis and fatal myocarditis after infection. There are three antigenic variants of CPV-2, including CPV-2a, CPV-2b and CPV-2c. Capsid protein VP1 is a structural protein of CPV-2, which is primarily responsible for viral infectivity. Conformational changes and exposure of the capsid VP1 N-terminal region have great impact on infectivity of the virus, as N-termini are essential for the intracellular virion to initiate infection. Interference against the capsid protein VP1 could successfully induce a protective effect in both cells and suckling mice.
