Phycoerythrin (PE) is a type of PBP composed of three subunits, α, β and γ. Among them, the γ subunit has the role of linking and stabilizing, so that PE can exist in the form of stable (αβ)6γ. PE can covalently link the color groups such as phycorhobilin and phycourobilin, and has strong absorption efficiency of short-wavelength blue and green light, so that red algae and cyanobacteria can efficiently capture and transfer light energy in deep water weak blue and green light environment. PE with high purity binds stably to biotin, monoclonal antibody and other proteins, and can be used as fluorescent probe in fluorescence immunoassay and other technologies. At the same time, PE has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, and has a certain easing effect on Alzheimer's disease, liver and kidney toxicity, diabetes and other diseases.
